Cash, forex card or international debit card?

Most travellers over-carry cash and over-pay on card markups. The practical split for a two-week international trip is roughly 20% cash for taxis and tips, 80% on a forex card.

How much foreign exchange can you carry?

Under the RBI Liberalised Remittance Scheme, a resident individual may remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year for permitted purposes including private travel, education and medical treatment. Of that, up to USD 3,000 equivalent may be carried as physical currency notes per trip, with the balance on a forex card, traveller's cheque or wire transfer. Travel to Nepal and Bhutan follows separate rules.

Documents required to buy forex

Everything is verified once and reused for future transactions, so repeat purchases take minutes.

  • Passport (original for collection, copy to start the order)
  • Confirmed air ticket showing travel within 60 days
  • Valid visa for the destination, where applicable
  • PAN card — mandatory for transactions above the RBI threshold
  • Form A2 declaration, which we prepare for your signature

Getting a better rate

Airport counters typically load 3–5% over the interbank rate; city dealers are far tighter. Book a day or two ahead rather than on departure morning, consolidate the family's currency into one transaction to cross a better rate slab, and always compare the all-in rate — the number after service charge and GST — not the headline rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's forex rate in Chennai?

Rates move through the day with the interbank market. Send us your currency and amount on WhatsApp and you will get a live, all-inclusive quote — the rate after service charge and GST — that we hold for the day once you confirm.

How much cash currency can I carry abroad from India?

Up to USD 3,000 equivalent in physical notes per trip for private travel. The rest of your entitlement under the USD 250,000 LRS annual limit must go onto a forex card or be wired.

Is a forex card better than an international debit card?

For most travellers, yes. A forex card is preloaded at a locked rate with no 3–3.5% cross-currency markup, and if it is lost the balance is protected and a replacement card can be issued abroad.

Can I sell back unused foreign currency?

Yes. We buy back unused notes and unload forex card balances at prevailing rates. RBI requires that unused foreign exchange be surrendered within 180 days of your return.

Do you deliver currency in Chennai?

We deliver across Chennai — Ashok Nagar, T. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Velachery, OMR, Adyar and surrounding areas — usually the same or next working day after your documents are verified.
